These Balsamic Glazed Green Beans are the perfect way to amplify an everyday vegetable!

Heinen’s premium balsamic vinegar is reduced with honey to create a sweet and savory glaze that pairs so well with green beans (or roasted Brussels sprouts). Steaming the green beans for a short time keeps them crisp-tender and bright green.

Nuts are optional, but if you like them, they will add nice contrasting texture and richness. I love the flavor of toasted walnuts or pecans in this recipe!

These green beans are a simple, elegant, and light vegetable side dish that pairs well with a variety of main dishes, especially a heavy holiday dinner!

Ingredients

  • ½ Tbsp. Heinen's extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp. fresh garlic, minced
  • ⅓ cup Heinen’s balsamic vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. Heinen’s raw honey
  • ½ tsp. Kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp. Heinen’s onion powder
  • 1 ½ lb. fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed
  • ¼ cup Heinen's walnuts or pecans, chopped and toasted (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  2. Stir in the balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and onion powder. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to maintain a low simmer. Continue to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring often, until the vinegar reduces and becomes syrupy. Set aside.
  3. Add the green beans to a wide skillet with a lid. Add ½-inch of water to the bottom of the pan. Bring to a boil, cover, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Steam the green beans until crisp-tender, about 4-5 minutes, or until cooked to your liking. Drain well and transfer back to the skillet.
  4. Pour the balsamic glaze over the green beans and toss gently until well-coated.
  5. Top with toasted nuts, if using.
