Balsamic Glazed Green Beans
The following recipe and photography were provided by local blogger Carolyn Hodges of The Dinner Shift.
These Balsamic Glazed Green Beans are the perfect way to amplify an everyday vegetable.
Balsamic vinegar is reduced with honey to create a sweet and savory glaze that pairs so well with green beans (or roasted Brussels sprouts). Steaming the green beans for a short amount of time keeps them crisp-tender and bright green.
The nuts are optional, but add nice contrasting texture and richness. I love the flavor of toasted walnuts or pecans in this recipe.
These green beans are a simple and elegant vegetable side dish that pairs well with a variety of main dishes. I promise you everyone that tries them will love them.
Balsamic Glazed Green Beans
Cook time: 10min Prep time: 10min Total time: 20min
Servings: 6-8
Ingredients
- ½ Tbsp. Heinen's olive oil
- 1 tsp. fresh garlic, minced
- ⅓ cup Heinen’s balsamic vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. Heinen’s honey
- ½ tsp. Kosher salt
- ¼ tsp. Heinen’s onion powder
- 1 ½ lb. fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed
- ¼ cup walnuts or pecans, chopped and toasted (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
- Stir in the balsamic vinegar, honey, salt and onion powder. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to maintain a low simmer. Continue to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring often, until the vinegar reduces and becomes syrupy. Set aside.
- Add the green beans to a wide skillet (with a lid). Add ½-inch of water to the bottom of the pan. Bring to a boil, cover, then reduce heat to medium-low. Steam the green beans until crisp-tender, about 4-5 minutes, or until cooked to your liking. Drain well and transfer back to the skillet.
- Pour the balsamic glaze over the green beans and toss gently until well-coated. Top with toasted nuts, if using.
