Chicken is a great way to fill up on the essential protein your body needs, but let’s be honest, it can get old quick! To add excitement to this everyday poultry, marinate it in immune friendly garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice and oregano. The result is vibrant, savory flavor that will have your taste buds begging for another bite.

While this dish could certainly be served alongside a salad, there’s another leafy green side that offers just as much, if not more, nutritional value: Swiss chard. An excellent source of vitamins A,K,C and magnesium, this superfood, when sautéed, makes the perfect partner for this meaty main dish.

Lemon and Oregano Chicken with Swiss Chard


  • 4 Gerber’s CARE Certified boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 sprigs fresh oregano
  • 5 Tbsp. Heinen’s olive oil
  • 2 shallots, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 bunches fresh Swiss chard, roughly chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Add the chicken to a large bowl along with the garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, oregano, 3 Tbsp. of olive oil, salt and pepper. Mix to combine.
  3. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.
  4. Add 1 Tbsp. of olive oil to a large frying pan over medium-high heat and heat until it begins to lightly smoke.
  5. Add the chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Flip the chicken and transfer the pan to the oven at cook it at 350°F for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  7. In a separate large frying pan over medium heat, add the remaining 1 Tbsp. of olive oil and sauté the shallots for 3-4 minutes, or until lightly brown.
  8. Add the Swiss chard and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Serve the chicken alongside the Swiss chard.
