Patriotic Charcuterie Board
The following recipe and photography were provided by our partner, Yoko Segawa of Yoko’s Kitchen.
Add an American touch to any summer holiday celebration with this easy, impressive, and incredibly delicious Patriotic Charcuterie Board featuring an assortment of red, white, and blue specialty cheeses, fruits, crackers, nuts, and meats!
The best thing about this board is that it looks extremely intricate, but in reality, it’s very easy to assemble. Even better, all of the ingredients are available at your local Heinen’s, so you can grab everything you need while you’re shopping for your holiday weekend essentials.
There are three key things to consider when creating a patriotic charcuterie board: color, texture, and shape.
- Color: To give this board a patriotic look and feel, choose red, white, and blue ingredients and color block them together when arranging the board. In the examples below, you will see that all of the red ingredients are arranged at the top of the board, the white ingredients are in the middle, and the blue ingredients are at the bottom.
- Texture: The beauty of a charcuterie board is that each bite offers something different. That’s why it’s important to choose specialty cheeses with varying textures. Heinen’s Specialty Cheese Department has an endless assortment of domestic and international cheeses that would work beautifully on this board, but this recipe specifically calls for a harder sliced white cheddar cheese, Heinen’s soft Hand-Selected Goat Cheese, and a moist Castillo 3 Month Manchego Cheese.
- Shape: Including ingredients of differing shapes is key to elevating the eye appeal of any charcuterie board. On this board you’ll see a mix of triangles, circles, squares, and half moons in addition to rolled charcuterie meats. There’s no right or wrong way to assemble a charcuterie board and you don’t have to be an artist or master of geometry to make the perfect arrangement. Treat it like a personal puzzle!
Now that you know the basics, it’s time to build a board that goes down in history!

- It’s a delicious patriotic treat for the summer holidays. Overflowing with refreshing fruits, savory meats, flavorful cheeses, and crunchy crackers, this board offers something for everyone, even the kids! It’s a great appetizer for anyone hosting or attending a Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day gathering.
- It’s a beginner-friendly charcuterie board. Although it looks complex, the steps to make this charcuterie board are easy. All you’ll need is a knife, cutting board, and a nearby microwave if you include the chocolate covered strawberries. The pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses save you time, so you only need to cut the watermelon and apples.
- You can follow this recipe or use it as inspiration. To make your own version, simply pick out 2-3 cheeses that you like and place them on the center of the board along with white-colored foods like crackers and nuts. Then gather red and blue/black colored food from Heinen’s and place them at the top and bottom of the board to complete the patriotic look.
