Pierogi Skewers with Caramelized Onion Sour Cream

Baseball season is back and although it may look a little different this year, with the right food, we can feel as though we’re at the stadium rooting for our favorite team! These Pierogi Skewers with Caramelized Onion Sour Cream are a hand-held bite with loads of flavor making them a home run for game night!
Pierogi Skewers with Caramelized Onion Sour Cream
Ingredients
For the Pierogies
- 1 Package of Heinen's frozen pierogies
- Heinen’s olive oil spray
- Skewer sticks
For the Caramelized Onions
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- Pinch of kosher salt and pepper
- 2 Tbsp. butter
For the Caramelized Onion Sour Cream Dip
- 1 cup sour cream
- Caramelized onions (see above)
- 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
Instructions
For the Pierogies
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Gently separate add the frozen pierogies for 2-3 minutes, until they float, stirring a few times throughout.
- Place cooked pierogies onto a glass plate and spray with Heinen’s olive oil spray to avoid sticking together.
- Skewer the pierogies onto a stick, 2 to 3 maximum.
- Add a pad of butter to a grill pan or sauce pan and place the pierogies over medium heat onto the melted butter. Let them sit and cook for a minute or so on each side until the outside of the pierogies turn slightly golden.
- Remove from heat, set aside
For the Caramelized Onions
- In a sauté pan over medium-low heat, add 2 Tbsp. of butter and the sliced yellow onion.
- Season the onions with salt and pepper and cook on medium-low heat for 45 minutes, stirring frequently until they have turned a beautiful golden color.
Note: These can be made in advance and stored in the fridge.
For the Caramelized Onion Sour Cream Dip
- In a bowl, stir together all of the ingredients listed above. Store in the fridge until ready to serve beside the pierogi skewers.
