Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread
The following recipe and photography were provided by our partner, Megan Weimer of Dollop of Dough.
When apple season winds down, pear season is just beginning!
I love eating pears out of hand as a snack, but when the fall and winter months roll around, I crave something a little more comforting than the cold and juicy bite that a pear offers on its own.
I love baking bread when the weather gets chilly, so I chopped up a few oy my favorite Bartlett pears and tossed them into a seasonally inspired batter.
Dense, moist and just a little fruity, this fresh-baked loaf is spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves making for the perfect winter treat.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Heinen's unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup Heinen's brown sugar, packed
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. Heinen's ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. Heinen's ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. Heinen's allspice
- 1/4 tsp. Heinen's cloves
- 2 cups Bartlett pears, peeled and chopped (about 3 pears)
- 1 extra Bartlett pear, finely sliced
Instructions
- Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper and set aside. Preheat the oven to 350F.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar. Add the eggs (one at a time)and the vanilla extract. Mix until well incorporated.
- Add half of the flour and all of the baking powder, baking soda and salt to the bowl. Mix with a rubber spatula until no streaks of flour remain.
- Fold in the rest of the flour and all of the spices.
- Gently fold the pears into the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth out the top with a rubber spatula. Carefully place the thin pear slices on top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out with a few moist crumbs. Bake time will depend on the juiciness of the pears, so start
checking at 50 minutes. - Allow the pear bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire cooling rack. Slice and enjoy!
