Tropical Fruit Smoothie
The following recipe and photography were provided by local blogger Carolyn Hodges of The Dinner Shift.
Have you ever checked out the amazing assortment of tropical fruit in Heinen’s produce section? In addition to popular favorites like bananas, pineapples, mangoes and kiwi, you’ll discover more exotic varieties like dragon fruit, starfruit and cactus pear. Heinen’s makes it easy to enjoy these beautiful fruits year-round!
This smoothie incorporates a few of my kids’ favorite tropical fruits. While freezing the fruit is not required, it results in a super creamy smoothie. For added convenience, make freezer smoothie packs by dividing the frozen fruit into individual freezer bags. You can even add a handful of baby spinach or kale before stashing them in the freezer. To make a smoothie, simply add the contents of the smoothie pack to your blender, add Heinen’s vitamin D-fortified almondmilk and blend until smooth and creamy!
Tropical Fruit Smoothie
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- ½ pineapple
- 1 mango
- 2 large kiwi
- 2 ripe bananas
- 2-4 cups Heinen’s unsweetened plain almondmilk
- Optional add-ins: spinach, kale, chia seeds, ground flaxseed, protein powder/collagen, avocado, nut or seed butter
Instructions
- Cut the fruit into 1-inch pieces. Line a sheet pan with parchment or a silicone baking sheet, then top with the cut fruit in a single layer. Freeze for at least 3 hours or overnight.
- Transfer the frozen fruit into a resealable freezer bag. To make individual smoothie packs, divide the fruit into 4 freezer bags, making sure to include each of the fruits. Add 1 cup fresh baby spinach leaves or kale into each bag, if desired.
- To make a smoothie, add 1 ½ cups frozen fruit (or 1 freezer pack) into a high-powered blender. Add ½ cup almond milk and any other add-ins. Blend on high until very smooth and creamy. Add more almond milk for a thinner consistency.
