  • Heinen's Pork Schnitzel
  • Aunt Nellie’s Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage
  • Heinen’s Baby Arugula
  • Heinen’s Honey Dijon Dressing
  • Heinen’s Potato Salad


  1. Heat a sauté pan over medium heat. When hot, add a splash of oil to the pan and fry the schnitzel.
  2. Microwave the cabbage on high until hot.
  3. Place the schnitzel on a plate.
  4. Toss the arugula with Dijon dressing and top the schnitzel.
  5. Serve with potato salad and cabbage on the side. Add a wedge of lemon to garnish.

In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
