Green water… have you tried it? Thanks to the power of the internet, a quick hashtag search will reveal countless videos of people of all ages and walks of life enjoying this unique colored beverage.

This viral online trend promotes drinking chlorophyll to experience a seemingly lengthy list of wellness support. An energy booster, a detoxifier and an immune system stimulator are just some reported wins. But let’s take a step back. What is chlorophyll and is this internet craze truly beneficial to your health?

Liquid Chlorophyll in Water

Chlorophyll is a naturally produced green pigment found in plants and algae. It gives them a green color and is critical for photosynthesis, which converts sunlight into energy. The result is plants that provide us with tons of antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and E. Chlorophyll is consumed naturally by eating plants, or in supplemental form, which may increase effectiveness. One option is liquid chlorophyll.

In a liquid form, chlorophyll makes chlorophyllin, which absorbs into the body better than chlorophyll. It’s a good alternative because it doesn’t break down during digestion before absorption, like chlorophyll.

  2. Strain the mixture into a saucepan.

  5. Pour the cold mixture into a cheesecloth or a muslin bag.
  6. Collect the green paste, refrigerate and consume throughout the week.

Research is still being conducted on the extended benefits and uses of chlorophyll. Please consult with your primary care physician before adding chlorophyll to your daily regimen.
